Principal
This school year (2024-25) will be Holly Harvil’s sixth year serving the students, families, and staff of Cowan Road Elementary. Before coming to Griffin, Dr. Harvil worked as a teacher and administrator for sixteen years in the Newton County School System and as principal for two years in Pike County. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2001 and began her teaching career as a Pre-K teacher. After her first year in the classroom, Dr. Harvil taught first grade for four years, third grade for a year, and one year in fifth grade. She was Teacher of the Year for East Newton Elementary School in 2007.
Dr. Harvil has both a Master’s Degree and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and a Gifted Endorsement. She completed her doctorate degree in 2018 with a focus on technology and English Language Learners. During her free time she enjoys reading biographies and traveling. During her travels, Dr. Harvil has visited 37 countries with some of her favorites being Austria, Scotland, Curacao, Denmark, Italy, and Greece.
Dr. Harvil is a native of Madison, Georgia. She moved to Monroe County in 2014, when she married her husband, Todd. She and Todd have five children. Their oldest daughter, Sara, is a teacher, and their oldest son, Ransom, is a certified welder. Twins, Ana and Thomas, are in their junior year of college. Ana also serves in the Air National Guard. Their youngest, Rush Larkin, is in eleventh grade. Dr. Harvil also has two dachshunds, Axel and Gus, and a grouchy cat named Rocky.
Dr. Harvil is excited to continue to serve the students of Cowan Road Elementary School and work closely with parents, faculty, and district staff to ensure success and growth for all students.
