Congratulations to Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Jones for winning the Sunshine Club’s St. Patrick’s Day treasure hunt. They tracked down the winning leprechauns… who might look just a little familiar! Thanks for joining in the fun and bringing some extra luck (and laughs) to our day. Thanks to Sunshine Club for coordinating the shenanigans! #WalkTheWalk #StPaddysDay

Lucky little learners at work! 🍀 Our PreK friends had a magical St. Paddy’s Day full of hands-on fun! They planted shamrocks and built clever leprechaun traps—just in case one tried to sneak through their classrooms! No leprechauns caught… yet but lots of giggles, creativity, and a little bit of mischief filled the day! #WalkTheWalk #StPadddysDay

Our Reading Bowl team had an incredible day at TomeCon in Athens on the campus of the University of Georgia!

Students spent the day surrounded by books and authors — attending workshops and talks led by authors, creating book-themed crafts, and listening to the keynote speaker, Gordon Korman (yes, that Gordon Korman!). They also enjoyed an author Q&A panel and had the chance to meet several authors and get their books autographed.

It was a full day of celebrating reading, creativity, and the joy of great stories. We are so proud of our readers for representing our school so well!

Yesterday was an exciting day at our school as we celebrated Real Men Read!

District leaders and community stakeholders visited classrooms across the building to read with ALL of our students and share their love of books. It was a great opportunity for students to see strong role models demonstrating just how important reading is.

A big thank you to these wonderful gentlemen for taking time out of their day to invest in our students and encourage a love of reading! Thanks to Connor Westbury Funeral Home, Carver Road Baptist Church, Spalding Co Parks/Rec, Mentorship, Brightmoor Hospice, and GSCS for serving in our school for this event. #WalkTheWalk #ReadersAreLeaders

Our Reading Bowl team did an amazing job competing in the GSCS Reading Bowl on Friday! 📚 These students worked incredibly hard to prepare. They read seven novels, took AR quizzes, studied together, and practiced answering Quiz Bowl–style questions about the books. Their dedication and teamwork truly paid off — they earned 3rd place! We are so proud of their effort, commitment, and love of reading. Great job representing our school!

The 2026 GSCS Reading Bowl took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Griffin Region College and Career Academy, featuring nearly 60 students from eight different elementary schools. The annual event included seven rounds where student competitors answered questions based on books they had read. Crescent Elementary emerged as the winner, securing first place. Futral Road Elementary followed closely in second place, and Cowan Road Elementary completed the top three, taking home the third-place trophy. The other schools that participated were Anne Street, Beaverbrook, Jackson Road, Moreland Road and Orrs Elementary. After the competition, participants enjoyed a pizza lunch, generously provided by Partner in Education Marcos Pizza. The event was made possible thanks to the support of the middle school media specialists, technicians and the staff at GRCCA.
